Comic book rants for this week and last week.

All New Atom #15: Oh Gail, why must this title sell so badly? And why must the Countdown crossover be so forced?

Black Canary Wedding Planner: It's too bad that I'm hoping something horrible happens to Green Arrow. I like Green Arrow. I just don't like him getting married to Canary, and I'd rather him dead than them married. The lingerie section was truly a stupid moment by Torres, who is generally capable of doing better.

Countdown 34: More of the insane. And stupid. And I'd like to mention, Scott Beatty REALLY cannot write a good two page origin. The Luthor orgin in eithier this issue or another is just insipid.

Detective Comics #836: This author does not get it. If you want to make Scarecrow good, you take the unholy spawn of the Batman Begins and Batman: Gotham Knights versions of Scarecrow, and give him a scythe. Because scythes are awesome.

Infinity Inc #1: What's the point?

Jack Kirby's New God Omnibus #2: I haven't gotten this yet. However, I WILL be getting this, at some point, and I will give a rant about everything intresting in this book.

Metal Men #2: I didn't get this book eithier. And I don't plan on it. You see, Dan Didio likes the Metal Men, so much that he tried to create a Metal Men series on TV. So in defiance to Dan, I choose not to buy these books.

Nightwing #136: You know, blogger mightygodking (too lazy to link) once had a series of posts on why he should write the Leigon of Superheroes. I lack his photoshop skills, and I don't really want to explain things in terms of pictures, but I really want to do a list of reasons as to why I should write Nightwing. I consider it the true meaning of Fan Entitlement!

Supergirl #21: You know, my problems with Supergirl, on reflection, hasn't been with the costume, although I am happy that she's wearing shorts under that skirt. The problem is the stories, and this story involving Equus and Mr. Orr, two incredible dumb villians from that For Tommorrow storyline which may not even be in continuity, about the Leigon of Superheroes who I could care less about and a plot point that should have been resolved weeks ago, means that Supergirl. Still. Sucks. I have no hope on Kelly Pluckett (creator of Cass!), which really is a testament to my pessimism, and to how I've already retconned out just about everything since issue #5 as the product of a deranged imagination. I will probably like this title of Kelly explicitly retcons everything, or brings back Cass. Although both are EXTREMELY doubtful.

Batman Confidential #9: Okay, here's a joke. A guy enters DC's office with this book in his hand, and ask who wrote it. When he gets his answer, he goes up to this guy, screams "What is this piece of *insert explitive here*", and shoots the author dead. The shooter, of course, is the Joker, who makes sure the author knows he does not like false rumors being published.

Only the Joker would think this joke is funny, but it definitly is what I think he would do.

Black Adam the Dark Age #2: And all this issue does is explain loose ends that never should have come up to begin with, along with some senseless violence.

Booster Gold #2: Obviously an issue that sets up the basic formula. It's pretty good though, although I wish this 'multiverse' turned out to be a fake. Perhaps, an 'antiverse'.

Countdown 33: And more pointlessness from Countdown. Pointlessness outside of chronological order!

Green Lantern #23: I don't care what anyone says, this Anti-Monitor is not the REAL Anti-Monitor. The real Anti-Monitor is trapped in reality, and subtly causing all these messes along with his unwitting servant, the Ninth of Seven (Dan Didio). Otherwise, great issue. Prime needs to die.

JLA Classified #42: A solo from Justin Gray. Oh, how I wish this story could be in continuity. The characterization is spot on. But the story suggests the Justice League formed before J'onn joined it, which is so utterly against a sacred cow of continuity that I don't understand how it slipped by the editors. So this story could not have happened, and I am deeply disapointed.

JLA Wedding Special #1: My irrational hatred for Misfit seems to have transfered to Firestorm, which makes no sense because I love the new Firestorm. Or loved the Moore/Igle run, at any rate. However, its too connected to the uncomprehensible and awful mess that is the Meltzer run. (By the way, apparently the Aquaman at the end of JLA #12 is the new one, which makes ABSOLUTLY NO SENSE, and its fairly obvious Metlzer only cares about his own continuity. If that's how he likes it, then I will see how much he cares when I retcon his entire JLA run, and do my best to lampoon how incredibly DUMB it was. Trust me, I will retcon his run.) I really wish I could like this. I really wish.

JSA #9: After the incredibly STUPID "Lightning" crossover, which I hope is only referenced as a Leigon of Superheroes turned into zombies by darkness, JSA gets much better. The new Starman has an intresting gimmick, but as a member of the Leigon he needs to be retconned just so I don't have to think about Meltzer. His position should be perferably replaced by Shining Knight. Or another legacy with a mental disorder. As for the death in this issue: I WAS GOING TO USE HIM! But it dosen't matter, since I already know how he died in my own fan world. One day, I will make that fanworld closer to reality...but not yet. Like I said, Fan Entitlement.

Suicide Squad: Raise the Flag #1: At first I was worried this story also didn't happen. If you just change the "2 years ago" caption to "X years ago", then it all fits. I'd probably like it more if I read Suicide Squad. I'm loath to get the Showcases, which aren't solicited, because of the lack of color.

Superman #667: Great stuff. Kurt Busiek knows exactly what he's doing.

Trials of Shazam #8: I personally think this may be Winick's best superhero work. Which isn't saying much, because Winick is just a horrible and hypocritical author. Yet I somehow like this. Sorry Fortress Keeper.

Wonder Girl #1: I know Amazons Attack has been beaten to a dead horse, but I figure I should say my piece.

I would rather perfer the Amazons to remain in another universe than mind-wiped and sent among normality. If they were in a pocket dimension, they could come back to turn the tide of the typical Battle For the Universe in a spectacular fashion that will teach everyone an important lesson: Don't mess with the Amazons. However, in the situation we have, I am tempted to spitefully write a story where say, the Legaue of Assasins easily slay the former warriors just to so they don't become a threat again. Any villain with enough power and sense would do that. Of course, then it will be revealed that these were all SHADOW DEMONS OF THE ANTI-MONITOR, the real Amazons come back and kick their butts, and when someone asks whether the Amazons attacked Washington, EVERYONE goes "What are you talking about?" Yes, that's my ideal story.

As for the issue itself...I've heard people say Cassie was better in Young Justice, and even though I haven't read Young Justice (which I hope to remedy), I will say that Cassie, much like Wonder Woman and Nightwing really has a LOT of negative baggage that needs to be retconned post-haste. This story dosen't do much for said baggage, and I really don't like that Heracles is coming back. He may become as ruined as Circe is right now. (Circe has been effectively ruined as a villian, I am certain of this, if nothing else). J. Torres has not been on the ball these past two weeks, though I blame editorial.

What's sad is that Cassie always needed a mini-series, or at least something, but the circumstances that led to this mini are just DREADFUL.

And that's the end of that. I fully expect no-one to read this.

He's not Every Person Eithier.

So, recently blog@newsarama has posted this article.

Now, I fully support what this person is doing.

But according to Scott's logic, what this person is doing is wrong.

See, everyone has a different line between what they feel is appropriate or not, so Northstar's death does not warrant any reaction because many people, including the writer of that story, thought it wasn't homophobic. So its entirely possible the story is not homophobic and anyone who says otherwise are wrong in acting that way.

Furthermore, since different people have different levels of tolerance, it is perfectly acceptable to have gay characters die through giant knives in their lower backs, and for superhero to treat gay characters with ignorance or contempt. Indeed, a level of gay bashing, literal and figurative, in comics by superheros is perfectly acceptable. There are some people who like that sort of thing, and its not like what's happening has any bearing on the real world. It's completly fictional! A DESIRE TO SEE VIOLENCE IS NOT A DESIRE TO BE PREJUDICED.

Finally, 60 gay characters that have "had bad things happen to them" is rather a small number when you consinder the amount of gay characters in comics, period. Most of them are found in Japanese manga, but many American superheroes have been read as gay. So there really is no problem with gay characters in comics, superhero or otherwise.

I would say that people who disagree are taking away from the harmless enjoyment of these comics and should simply admit that they are wrong. I say this as a supporter of gay rights.

I will be very hurt if you call me homophobic

I've been reading the Onion

BLOGGER STILL HASN'T RESPONDED TO COMMENTS: Says he'll get to it if he needs to work off some anger.

FANS DECRY BLOGGER FOR UNDERREACTING: Blogger claims: "What is wrong with you people?!"

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL ATTACKED, FLOODED: Students reported missing.

The East High School musical band, the Wildcats, were savegely attacked today by what observers claim to be "a man in a black cloak".

"They were asbout to perform their big number" says a student onlooker, "and then suddenly this guy in a black cloak shows up and screams 'Dance water, dance!'"

The school was then subsequently flooded and attacked by weird "gray monsters". Several students suffered severe injuries from the sudden jets of water that appeared "out of nowhere".

The events became even stranger when an Asian boy, described as "spiky haired", fought the attacker with a giant key.

"It was a giant key!" says an anonymous source. "And he fired ice and fire from it! And he was with a talking duck and some dog like thing, and then they dissapeared, and...I've completly lost my mind, haven't I?"

However, most of the students have reported seeing the same events happening.

Police gave only one comment to reporters: "We have absoulutely no idea what went on."

Several members of the Wildcats have been reported missing since the incident, including the band leaders.

One teenager seems happy by the events. "At least my mom won't drag me to watch this garbage anymore."

SUPERNATURAL TEAM SHUT DOWN: Fear of negative influences sighted.

JAPAN- The Specialized Extracirricular Execution Squad (SEES) supernatural team has been formally dissolved by the Worldwide Super Watch Group (WSWG).

The team was composed mostly of high school students with the ability to summon guardians from humanity's collective unconciousness, called "Persona". They then used them to battle other monsters from humanity's collective unconciousness, called "Shadows" that were attacking other humans without the summoning abilities.

However, in order to summon Personae, the students must use a harmless gun-like object and shoot themselves in the head with it.

Says a spokesperson for the WSWG, "It looks like they are commiting suicide." The WSWG has dissolved the team and formally banned most of the members from using their powers.

The former team's leader, Mitsuru Kirijou, argues against this position, and is trying to appeal it in court. "The evokers are not real guns. They don't even have bullets. Indeed, the psychological effect of having a fake gun to your head is often needed to fasicilitate the summoning. I see no reason why this would affect other people, especially if they are informed that we don't use real guns."

However, the official position of the WSWG bans the guns due a possible subversion by criminals.

Says the spokesman: "You have a supercriminal who can convince kids that they have Persona powers. Then he hands them an 'evoker' and tells them to use it when they are in danger. But the kids are actually given a real gun, so they end up killing themselves. This is a real and frightining possibility."

Currently, only two members of the former team are allowed to use their powers, as the don't use the gun-like evokers: an android named Aeigis (sometimes misspelled Aigis) and a dog called Koromaru. Koromaru was asked by translators about how he felt on the situation.

His reponse: "This is just like when those animal rights groups thought I was fighting against my will! Dumb humans." Aeigis was unavialible for comment.

Currently, the WSWG has not named someone to fill in for SEES, although numerous candidates have been rumoured.

BATMAN CAN STILL ONLY SAY TWO WORDS: "I'm Batman".

The Comics Blogsphere Has Gone Mad

When I read this, I knew something went wrong in the internet blogsphere.

So, I'm a very bad mood right now, so please excuse me if I rage at some people. I'm just blunt with my feelings.

OMG! FANS OVERREACT!

Here, let me tell you why the fans are overeacting. Even ties into my last post.

Once there was a character named Cassandra Cain. She was a well beloved hero.

And then she turned evil for no good reason. But wait, DC promised to explain what happened! Geoff Johns said she'd be in Titans East, and she'd be cool.

And that story was probably even worse than the Cass turning evil story.

So first, its entierly possible your hypothetical "find the pieces plot" will be even WORSE than Amazons Attack. How about the Amazons wanting to stay normal in their demining lives? I can think of a million of them.

And what if they don't follow up on this plotline at all! THEY MIGHT NOT! Think about that. Maybe your more opitmistic than I am.

And I know you liked that Hippolyta was back, but personally, the way she was portrayed in the book, I think she would have been better after staying dead. Or better yet, she comes back at the very end instantly and stops the fighting instantly. But then, I'm in the "death is better than being evil" camp.

And I can't resist this. Cheryl Lynn, I respect you greatly but I also suspect that Scott is so willing to have a rational debate with you because of this post right here. Scott has made it his personal crusade to go on feminist blogs and try to disprove all their arguments. By distancing yourself from the other feminists (which you had every right to), Scott think you're on HIS side. But his logic, which says things like "20% of female comics characters are rape, so women AREN'T being objectified" is basically the same thing as "jewish and chinese people score highter on standardized tests than other groups, so both groups must be cheating!" There's a similar statistic that comes to mind from my psychology textbooks, but I'm worried that I'd be offending people who I don't want to offend by bringing it up.

And speaking of which, stop_him maybe people have different views over what is sexist or racist or homophobic, but maybe we should give more credit to the people who are THE TARGET of the prejudice. After all, a heterosexual person is not the target of t-shirts that say "be happy, not gay".

You know, I didn't want to start a fight with any of the bloggers I despise with a passion, but at this time, I really don't care.
